Refresh your skincare routine for Spring

With Charbec Baker, Reflexologist and Holistic Facialist

As we enter Spring it’s the perfect time for a refresh - skincare included! When transitioning from Winter to Spring/Summer skincare there are a few key things I would recommend to make sure your skin is looking and feeling it’s best during the change in climate.

Before you switch up your products, start with a Spring clean. Clear out any products that are older than 6 months or anything that you haven’t used for 6 months. If your products are organic this is really important as they do not contain preservatives, so remember to check the sell by dates regularly.

You can watch Charbec’s skincare recommendations video here.

Here are my favourite products to use this Spring:

CLEANSERS

In Spring, we should be using more water/gel based cleansers. They are less heavy on the skin but still make it feel lovely and clean.

Recommended products:

Bioderma Pigmentbio Brightening Cleansing Micellar Water Anti-Dark Spot, £7.24

SkinCeuticals Glycolic Cleanser, £30

Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash, £16

EXFOLIATORS

To be gentle on the skin, go for grain free exfoliators and use at night time.

Herbivore Prism Exfoliating Glow Serum 12%, £49

RETINOL

I am asked a lot by clients whether they should continue to use retinol in the Summer, the answer is YES! Use twice per week in the evenings and always remember to use SPF the following day.

SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.3% Cream, £65

MOISTURISERS

Switch your moisturiser to a light water based moisturiser or one containing hyaluronic acid.

IS Clinical Moisturizing Complex, £74

Balancing Day Care Cream,£62

DR SEBAGH REPLENISHING CREAM, £68

SPF

It’s essential to protect your skin by wearing an SPF all year round. In Spring/Summer it’s even more important because of our increase in sun exposure. Therefore I recommend using an SPF that is independent of your moisturiser.

Supergoop Play Everyday Lotion SPF 50 with Sunflower Extract, £20

Heliocare SPF 50 gel,£18.50

TAN

Protect your skin from the sun and add a touch of warmth using fake tan products instead.

Tan-Luxe The Face Illuminating Self-Tan Drops Light/Medium, £35

Dr. Hauschka Translucent Bronzing Tint, £19

SERUM

For Spring serums I use a Vitamin C serum. This is great for working against the free radicals.

SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Antioxidant Vitamin C Serum for Normal/Dry Skin, £140

MASKS

For this time of year I recommend cooling and anti-inflammatory masks to cool the skin on those warmer days.

IS Clinical Hydra Intensive Cooling Masque £70

FACIAL OIL

Go for an oil that will boost your natural hyaluronic acids for hydration.

De Mamiel Spring Facial Oil, £80

About Charbec:

Charbec suffered with a serious digestive disorder for many years and came across reflexology as a method for improving her symptoms. After a few sessions she was amazed at the difference it made and wanted to help others in a similar way.

She qualified in foot reflexology and continued her training in facial reflexology (Bergman method) and now offers the award winning ‘Zone face lift’ which is a holistic facelift and the worlds first spiritual facial, using crystals, acupressure tools and Japanese facial massage technique.

Her goal is to encourage women and men to look to a more holistic approach for anti-ageing measures and she hopes to leave her clients mentally happier than before they arrived.
